DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

CRESA Learns How to Choose and Validate Game Capture

FEATUREIN DEVELOPMENT

CRESA's capture system evolves with learned per-game profiles, safer OBS source discovery, visual validation and automatic responses to Twitch category changes.

Smarter capture begins

CRESA's OBS integration takes a major step forward as development moves beyond simply controlling capture sources and begins working on learning which capture setup works best for each game. Per-game capture scenarios are introduced so CRESA can remember successful capture configurations rather than treating every title as an entirely new problem.

These profiles begin storing the OBS sources and capture methods associated with individual games, creating the foundation for faster and more reliable switching between titles.

Safer discovery inside OBS

A large part of this work focuses on making capture discovery safer. CRESA begins using permanent OBS capture sources during discovery and restores source visibility if a discovery attempt fails. The process is also made transactional, reducing the risk of leaving the OBS scene in an unexpected state while testing different capture options.

Capture candidates can be rendered and inspected through a dedicated Capture Assets scene, giving the system a stronger basis for deciding whether a capture method is actually producing usable output.

Looking beyond "a source exists"

Visual validation is expanded so CRESA can detect situations where a source technically exists but is not actually useful. This includes checking for:

  • Frozen frames
  • Capture sources that are no longer updating
  • Suitable live capture backends
  • Linked Game Capture audio
  • Separate process audio where required

Rather than accepting the first source that appears technically valid, CRESA begins developing the ability to determine whether that source is actually suitable for a live broadcast.

Connecting capture to the wider broadcast

Capture profiles also begin responding to Twitch category changes. That means a change in the game being streamed can become a signal for CRESA to look up the relevant learned capture profile and prepare the appropriate OBS configuration. This is an important shift in the project.

Capture is no longer just an OBS control. It is becoming a system that can observe, learn, validate and react to the game being broadcast.
