DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Mini Me Learns to Navigate More Reliably

UPDATEPUBLISHED

Mini Me gains a deterministic traversal system, giving CRESA more predictable control over how its tiny broadcast companion moves through the environment.

Teaching Mini Me How to Get Around

Mini Me had already become part of CRESA's broadcast world, but making a character appear is very different from giving that character dependable movement. As the idea continued developing, his traversal needed to become something CRESA could reason about rather than movement being left to loosely connected behaviour.

Development introduced a new deterministic traversal core, giving Mini Me a stronger foundation for deciding how movement through the environment should happen.

Predictability Matters

For Mini Me to eventually interact with more complicated spaces, CRESA needs to know that the same situation can produce understandable and testable behaviour. Deterministic traversal provides that foundation by making movement decisions something the Suite can reproduce and inspect instead of relying on unpredictable outcomes.

That becomes particularly useful when a route goes wrong. If the behaviour can be reproduced consistently, it becomes much easier to determine whether the problem belongs to the route, the movement rules or the environment itself.

Movement Becomes Testable

The traversal work was accompanied by dedicated testing, moving Mini Me's navigation further away from being purely a visual experiment. Core movement behaviour could now be exercised without needing to watch the character repeatedly and hope the same situation happened again.

This gave future Mini Me development a safer place to grow from. More interesting environments and behaviours become considerably easier to build when the fundamentals underneath them can be validated first.

A Smarter Little Broadcast Companion

Mini Me's original arrival was about bringing a small character into the broadcast. This stage was about beginning to give that character a more dependable understanding of how to move through it.

There is still plenty of room for Mini Me to become more adventurous, but deterministic traversal gives those future ideas something important to stand on: movement that CRESA can reproduce, test and deliberately improve.
