DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Mini Me Joins CRESA
The No Game Active experiment gains a personality of its own as Mini Me is introduced, animated and developed into an autonomous pixel runner.
Meet Mini Me
What started as an experiment for CRESA's No Game Active state is beginning to develop a personality of its own. A dedicated production sprite atlas is introduced for a new little character called Mini Me, replacing the more generic runner used during the early development of the scene.
Mini Me is designed to give CRESA something recognisable and a little more playful to display when there is no active game to capture.
Bringing him to life
Simply putting a sprite on screen isn't enough. Animation support is added using the canonical Mini Me sprite, followed by work to correct the sprite atlas scaling and make sure the character displays properly inside the browser scene. The result begins transforming the No Game Active screen from a static fallback into a small animated experience.
From animation to autonomous runner
Later development takes the idea considerably further. Mini Me is turned into an autonomous runner. Instead of relying on manual controls to make the scene do something, the runner begins operating on its own. Mini Me can keep the otherwise idle game area alive without requiring the streamer to constantly interact with it.
This also fits the wider direction of CRESA: presentation systems should understand their purpose and handle as much of their own behaviour as possible.
A feature nobody originally planned
Mini Me began as a solution to a practical problem: what should CRESA display when there is no game? By the end of the day, that simple question had started producing a feature with an identity of its own. The runner would continue evolving well beyond this first version, but this is where Mini Me properly enters CRESA.
Sometimes an empty space in the broadcast just needs a tiny pixel bloke running through it.
